I didn't know that I was so far

A big battle was going on during the First World War. Guns were firing, and shells andbullets were flying about everywhere. After an hour of this, one of the soldiers decidedthat the fighting was getting too dangerous for him, so he left the front line and began to go away from the battle. After he had walked for an hour, he saw an officer coming towards him. The officer stopped him and said, “ where are you going?”

“I'm trying to get as far away as possible from the battle that's going on behind us, sir,” the soldier answered.

“Do you know who I am?” the officer said to him angrily. “I'm your commanding officer.”

The soldier was very surprised when he heard this and said, “My God, I didn't know that I was so far back already!”

John D.Rockefeller, the wellknown millionaire contributed millions to the poor who suffereddisasters, but he himself was very mean about small sums of money. One day he went to stayat a hotel in New York and asked for the cheapest room in it. He said,“I am staying here aloneand only need a small room."

The manager showed him into a room and said,“This is our cheapest room with simplyequipment,” and added,“but why do you choose a poor room like this? When your son stayshere, he always has our most luxurious room, yours is our cheapest."

"Oh! yes, I envy him very much,"said Rockefeller,"because his father is a rich man but mineisn't."

One midnight a hotel caught fire because of electrical machine, and the people who were staying in it struggled to run out in their night gowns.

Two men stayed outside and looked at the flame.

“Before I came out,” said the man with a towel around his waist, “I ran into some of the suites and found a lot of money. The majority of people don't think of money when they are afraid. When anyone exposes paper currencies in the fire, the fire burns it. So I took all the bills that I could find. No one will be poorer although I took them.”

“You don't know my work,” said the other.

“What is your work? A fire fighter?”

  “No, I'm a policeman.”

“Oh,” cried the first man. He thought quickly and said, “And do you know my work?”

  “No.” said the policeman.

“I'm a novelist, and I'm always telling stories about things that never happened.”
